Clearly stated dogmas of the true Catholic Church. Reading the modern '92 catechism, I felt like I was being spoken to by a committee of politically-correct bishops, with some outlandish ideas that defy logic and were never taught by the Church prior to vatican II. My impressions were confirmed when I read Fr. John Hardon's (American theologian) reaction to this modern catechism: "... we are witnessing a massive effort to re-make our historic faith." My copy of the '92 catechism is now occupying space in our local landfill.With the Trent catechism, I feel like I am being spoken to by Our Lord Himself. I read this book during Adoration and get new insights with every reading. It's wonderful to finally receive the Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth.
Nice hardback that clearly explains the Catholic Church and the Christian beliefs that were dominant in the West for close to 1500 years. Unity is what is needed in the Body of Christ, not schism and documents like this are for that purpose. Most pre-Vatican II catechisms take this as a main source. This is also sourced heavily from Saint Augustine and St Aquinas as well as other great Catholic Fathers. Of course Holy Scripture is primary.My only problem is that on page 445 it seems to backslide on usury by defining money as both capital and as useless money as a tool. So it says, in a footnote that seems to contradict the clear language in the text, that interest may be charged because "capital" is another tool in the increase in the amount of wealth. I'm not sure if this is a modern insert in a Vatican II abomination or not, the footnote is from what looks to be a modern book " The science of Ethics" by Cronin. The text itself says nothing about any exception. A bank or investor can agree to get a share of what increase in wealth that is made out of their investment but anything else is robbery. To demand repayment in full at a set time is natural and fine but to demand more than what is invested regardless of a profit or loss is made is slavery and immoral. A fixed fee that does not scale is fine as well, but usury is an iron hard form of pay me more than I loaned you regardless of anything that happens, this is slavery and robbery. This is the goal of usury, to not really care if they get the full amount back but to keep one paying and in debt ad infinitum and this is slavery and this was legalized criminality over centuries in the leading countries mostly Low Countries and England. This is not to even get to the criminal central banking scam that is much more insidious nor to get to the reserve banking scam either.
This catechism is easier for me to understand than the more modern version. Wish I had read this earlier in my life.
If you don't know about the Catechism of the Council of Trent, there are plenty of resources elsewhere on the Internet. The same thing goes for getting free copies of the work. However, if you would like a Kindle edition (multi-platform, highlighting, position syncing, etc.), look no further. This book is well formatted, accurately spelled, and quite polished.
Pope Leo XIII, in an Encyclical letter to the bishops and clergy of France on September 8, 1899, wrote of this catechism: "This work is remarkable at once for the richness and exactness of its doctrine, and for the elegance of its style; it is a precious summary of all theology, both dogmatic and moral." This book is incredible!
Great reference to have on your kindle. I grew up with the Baltimore Catechism and this one is more intense, more informative. Recommend if you are interested in this type of thing.
The Trent Catechism is essential for any Catholic adult to have to ensure they are well-versed in their faith. This particular printing is of great quality. I have no complaints.
Probably the only version a Catholic should read.
