The number of errors in this book is ridiculous!!! I bought it to brush up on my basic math skills after taking 5 years off from school. I wasted countless hours reworking the same problems and doubting my own abilities because I kept failing to come up with the same solutions as the book. I cannot believe so many people found this book helpful!
The symbolized math equations and expressions are represented as pixelated images rather than some True Type font. The regular text is True Type and is easy to read. THE EQUATIONS ARE NOT.I even installed Kindle for desktop and used magnification-- still very unclear.Further, it appears returns or exchanges are not available for digital downloads.
I was very disappointed with the Sixth edition of calculus. The book has numerous errors. One might argue that in determining if something is really an error one has to work through the problem and might learn more deeply, but this goes beyond the occasional error. One section is riddled with errors. I found this odd since in mathematics a misplaced negative sign can lead to a complete wrong answer. And in one section even the calculations are incorrect. I must add that I did not find this level of errors in the other Schaum reviews I have used. Seems like the proof reader was lack in this book.
The book was good for a math refresher but there are a bunch of little errors located throughout (at least one ever couple chapters I saw). The author would state an equation wrong (see screen shot below) like dy/dt=3sint when it should be dx/dt. It can make some problems difficult to follow. I'm not sure if these errors are exclusive to the digital copy or not.
This is the perfect complement to any recommended calculus book because of the amount of solved problems. As well, it has many proposed problems with results, so you can practice and verify your own results.
Bought the e-book because I need it for my assignments, however, there are no page numbers, so during class, if we are told to go to page x it is impossible to keep up. This would be acceptable in a novel but for a textbook, it is just stupid. Thanks, Amazon this book is worthless to me.
So this ebook has typos like the geometry ebook has, but this takes it further into wrong answer territory. Unless there are 2 answers (not likely) some of the answers for the supplementary questions in chapter 3 are wrong. Going back and checking my work with formulas given, my answer wasn't wrong. *shrug* This next post might not just be in the ebook, but elements of chapter five (parabola, etc) were only mentioned in passing. They were mentioned as part of a solution to a problem and not thoroughly explained at all.I'll come back to this after I've finished it, but for now I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who has doubts about their calculus knowledge.
If you struggle with calculus then this will be your saving grace.
